My husband's Uncle Ken died this past Monday. He was a WWII vet who didn't talk much about the war. He did tell us one Thanksgiving or Christmas about one time when he & his group were in an old barn. The barn was surrounded by Germans & the Germans ordered the American soldiers to march out the front doors of the barn. Uncle Ken & his friend went out a back window of a barn.
When they went back the next day...all the guys that surrendered to the Germans were stacked up like cord wood in the barn, dead.
Uncle Ken also received the Bronze Star.
This monument to the WWII vets came too late for Uncle Ken. I'm sure he'd heard about it, but did it register?
